Disney is taking its early access kart racer out of pre-launch in September. Disney Speedstorm launched back in April and the company released three founder’s packs which you could pick up to jump into the game.
Disney has announced that Speedstorm will now launch officially on 28 September and be free for all players. The game was always meant to be a free-to-play racer but the early access period allowed users to play the game by supporting its development through a founder’s pack.

These packs included some goodies such as skins, characters and loads of customization DLC. When the free-to-play game launches, all of this will be unlockable in the game using real money, of course. In a statement, Gameloft says the early access phase has been great and players have provided invaluable feedback for the racer.
“Since the launch of Early Access, we’ve received invaluable feedback and support from our incredible community of players, who have been instrumental to the improvements made during Early Access. Moving to a free-to-play experience will also allow for more players to share in a fully robust competitive and co-op racing experience. We can’t wait to continue this journey together as we enter this exciting new phase. Stay tuned for more details!”
You’ll still get to purchase a founder’s pack up until 28 September if you want to. You’ll then carry over whatever these packs come with to the main game when it launches.
Disney Speedstorm also has a trial available on PlayStation Plus allowing gamers to test the racer before purchasing one of the packs. The game is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Switch.
