Larian Studios currently has its hands full with the upcoming launch of the anticipated RPG, Baldur’s Gate 3, though the developer hasn’t entirely ruled out the possibility of a new Divinity: Original Sin sequel. The studio recently confirmed that Divinity: Original Sin 3 will happen eventually, though it’s all hands on deck for Baldur’s Gate 3 at the moment.
Speaking to IGN in a recent interview, Larian Studios head Swen Vincke confirmed that the developer will revisit some of its other popular franchises including Divinity: Original Sin at some point in the future, though the team plans to take a break after the launch of Baldur’s Gate 3 next month. This means that fans might have to wait a lot longer to get a continuation of Divinity.

Vincke stated in the interview that work needs to be completed on Baldur’s Gate 3 first:
“We’ll finish this one now, and then take a break, because we will need to refresh ourselves creatively also. You’re seeing 400 developers putting their heart and souls into this. You’re getting the best of them and their craft into this game. And so I can tell you, it’s quite a thing.”
During the interview, Vincke talked about another Divinity sequel, saying, “It’s our own universe we built, so we’re definitely gonna get back there at some point. We will get back there at some point.”
In related news, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been making headlines in the gaming industry due to its more mature approaches to sex and nudity in the game. This includes the use of intimacy coordinators from Hollywood movies and television shows. At the moment, the RPG will only launch on PC on 3 August followed by a PS5 release on 6 September. Larian Studios previously stated that it’s having some difficulty getting split-screen co-op to work on Xbox Series S, which explains why an Xbox version hasn’t been pinned yet.
