Doom Eternal is one of our most anticipated games of 2020 and it is looking fantastic. We went hands-on with it last year at E3 and the game was already playing like a dream delivering all the arcade action and shooting you would expect from the title. The latest out of Doom Eternal touches on the microtransaction situation and it seems Bethesda is taking a very different approach with the game. Doom Eternal will have no microtransactions and everything cosmetic-related will be purchased in-game by spending XP.

According to creative director Hugo Martin, “Eternal is a $60 game and not a free-to-play or mobile game”. Hugo posted on Facebook his reaction to fans questions about the exclusion of Doom Eternal microtransaction saying “we are giving u [sic] a complete experience with no store just like you’d expect”.

Doom Eternal Microtransactions

The 2016 DOOM release did include a couple of in-game purchases especially in the form of multiplayer DLC. However, all the content was released for free two years later letting everyone play with the new weapons, guns, maps and demons. Bethesda obviously learnt from past mistakes of splitting the multiplayer community and don’t want to repeat them again.

That is to say, this does not mean there will never be DLC for Doom Eternal.  Bethesda could look at releasing additional maps for the multiplayer at a later date. The developers have not yet revealed the content roadmap for the game so things may change but as of now, don’t expect any smaller microtransactions in the game at all.

Doom Eternal releases (microtransaction-free) on 20 March 2020 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The Nintendo Switch version is planned for release at a later date. Catch up on the latest gory and explosive trailer for the upcoming game down below;
