The release date for DOOM: The Dark Ages, the upcoming first-person shooter from id Software and follow-up to 2020’s DOOM Eternal, has leaked online ahead of the game’s appearance at the Xbox Developer Direct showcase tomorrow. According to the leak, players can expect to get their hands on the long-awaited shooter as soon as May this year.
The leaked release date for DOOM: The Dark Ages was listed on the French website Gamekult before being swiftly taken down. However, it was seen and documented by ResetEra users who noticed the leaked date of 15 May 2025. This has since been taken down, meaning there might be some credibility to the leak. Microsoft and id Software will probably announce the official release date at tomorrow’s Developer Direct so we won’t have to wait long to find out if this leak is accurate.
Despite being bought by Microsoft, id Software confirmed that it plans to launch DOOM: The Dark Ages on PS5 alongside Xbox Series X/S and PC. It’s possible that the first-person shooter was in development before Microsoft’s big acquisition of Bethesda and Zenimax Media, which could explain its multiplatform release. On the other hand, this could also be part of Xbox’s strategy to get first-party titles on several platforms and not just Xbox/PC.
On that note, a report from Windows Central earlier this month claimed that Xbox is planning to port Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Microsoft Flight Simulator and Gears of War Ultimate Edition to PS5 this year. Other reports also say that Forza Horizon 5 could also be making its way to PS5 at some point.
The description for DOOM: The Dark Ages reads:
“DOOM: The Dark Ages is the single-player, action FPS prequel to the critically acclaimed DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal. You are the DOOM Slayer, the legendary demon-killing warrior fighting endlessly against Hell. Experience the epic cinematic origin story of the DOOM Slayer’s rage in 2025.”
DOOM: The Dark Ages will seemingly launch on 15 May 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
