Dota 2 Chinese Superstar Takes a Break From Competitive Play

As you can see from the image above, the Dota 2 Chinese superstar, Lu “Maybe” Yao, also briefly known as Somnus, has taken a break from competitive play. This might not come as a surprise to those who watched Maybe closely during the Chongqing Major, where he seemed to lack a bit of that spark. It could, maybe (sorry), just be because the drafts didn’t allow him to jump on more skill-based mids, especially in the later stages of the tournament.

The Dota 2 Chinese superstar’s break has been approved by PSG.LGD and in his place, they will have mid player Guo “XM” Hongcheng. XM is on loan from CDEC and this does seem to be just a temporary break. Let’s face it, Maybe is simply too good and too young to retire and hopefully, this break will do him some good. PSG.LGD did mention that Maybe is taking a break for physical and personal reasons.

PSG.LGD announced Maybe’s break, explaining that:

After the conclusion of the Chongqing Major, Lu ‘Maybe’ Yao requested some time off, due to personal and physical reasons. After internal discussion, LGD Gaming has decided to respect his wishes and approve his application to leave temporarily.

As most of you who have been following our Dota 2 news and esports reports know, I am a massive fan of PSG.LGD and Maybe plays no small part in that. He is one of the best mid players in the world and his individual skill is daunting to even the top tier players facing him.

It is great to see PSG.LGD allow their star player a break. Right now, PSG.LGD is playing with XM in some DreamLeague Season 11 matches and thankfully, it looks as if things are going very well. It remains to be seen if Maybe will come back before or after the DreamLeague Season 11 major, as PSG.LGD is only in fourth place on the DPC log and they are not yet guaranteed a direct invite to The International 2019 with 2250 points.

How do you think PSG.LGD will fare without their superstar and are you a fan of Maybe? Let us know in the comment section below.
