Dota 2 WePlay! Pushka League Day 1 Tournament Wrap Up

The first season of the WePlay! Pushka League got underway last night. Two pools of top EU and CIS teams looking to secure the first prize of USD$70,000. Three games were originally scheduled for the first day, last-minute qualifiers VP.Prodigy had their game against stablemates VirtusPro rescheduled to the final day. This was due to their Epic Prime League match against TSpirit which VP.Prodigy took 2-0. It acted as a great primer for them considering they will also face TSpirit later.

Dota 2 WePlay! Pushka League Day 1 Wrap Up

After finishing last in their group at the recent ESL One Los Angles event, Na’Vi continued their run of poor form in the first game of the day. The team went down 2-0 to Hellraisers. Having just missed out on the finals bracket at the ESL One event, Hellraisers handled Na’Vi comfortably with both wins coming in under 35 minutes. Including 30 kills to 10 in the first game and 18 kills to 15 in the second.

The second round featured Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP), a team that shrugged off the sudden retirement earlier this week of their legendary captain Peter “ppd” Dager. This took place just three days before the start of the tournament by buying the entire Chicken Fighters team. Chicken Fighters had impressed with a 4th placed finish at the ESL One Los Angeles last week and were ready to go replace the remaining NiP line-up. OG.Seed also came in riding a wave. They qualified for this tournament less than 24 hrs before the start and claimed their qualifier spot by seeing off a red hot Vikin.gg.  The team had taken out both Alliance and Team Secret just a week ago in a great ESL One Los Angeles lower bracket run for a 3 rd place finish.

The teams split the first two rounds with a see-sawing NiP win in the first. Followed by a dominant OG.Seed taking the second – ending the game with a cheeky “omega gg”. The chat poke was the inspiration for a dominating 22/1/6 Templar Assassin performance by “Supream^”. NiP took game three decisively to claim the series. To rub a little salt in, they closed out with “SUPER GG” sign-offs.

The action continues from 1 pm today. The previous TI winner and DOTA 2 legend “Dendi” leading his new team B8 against TSpirit, Liquid takes on NiP in the second game. Secret faces off against “S4” and Alliance in the final match of the day.
