Guy Beahm, also known as Dr Disrespect has commented on the ongoing scandal surrounding his 2020 ban from Twitch. The streamer made the news this weekend after former Twitch employees revealed that back in 2020, Guy Beahm was texting a minor through Twitch’s “whisper” feature and the platform deemed the texts as inappropriate.
As a result of this, Beahm recently lost his game studio which he co-founded called Midnight Society. The studio parted ways as a result of the revelation and released a statement saying at first they had assumed he was innocent but new information has led them to take these actions.
Dr Disrespect, after announcing he was taking a break from streaming because he is burnt out, has now released a statement regarding the ban and Twitch drama. Beahm says that he apologises to everyone who has been left in the dark, especially to his family and team at his former studio Midnight Society Game Studio.
Beahm confirmed that he did indeed text a minor back in 2017 and he confirmed that while there were no intentions behind the chat, the conversation “sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate”.
He says “Nothing illegal happened, no pictures were shared and no crimes were committed”. Beahm also confirmed that following the incident, a civil dispute took place with Twitch which resulted in a settlement.
Were there twitch whisper messages with an individual minor back in 2017? The answer is yes. Were there real intentions behind these messages, the answer is absolutely not. These were casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate, but nothing more. Nothing illegal happened, no pictures were shared, no crimes were committed, I never even met the individual. I went through a lengthy arbitration regarding a civil dispute with twitch and that case was resolved by a settlement. Let me be clear, it was not a criminal case against me and no criminal charges have ever been brought against me.
Beahm follows up by commenting on the social media discourse which is swirling around various platforms regarding the matter. Fans and non-fans have been calling Beahm out as a “predator”. He says that people know where he stands on those things and “those types of people”. He doesn’t want to be labelled as that.
Now, with all this said, don’t get it fucking mistaken, I’ve seen all the remarks and labels being throw around so loosely. Social media is a destruction zone. I’m no fucking predator or pedophile. Are you kidding me? Anyone that truely knows me fucking knows where I stand on those things with those types of people. Fuck that.
