Dragon Age 4 Creative Director Has Left BioWare

Dragon Age 4 has lost its senior creative director, Matt Goldman, BioWare recently addressed in a letter to staff. Despite losing its leadership, BioWare remains adamant that the project will only ship once it meets quality standards.

BioWare’s studio GM Gary McKay recently issued a letter to the company’s staff (published by Kotaku), which confirmed Goldman’s departure from Dragon Age 4 and the company. Goldman was a 20-year veteran at BioWare, having worked on Baldur’s Gate and all previous Dragon Age games.

In the letter, McKay addresses Goldman’s exit from the studio and acknowledges its impact on the employees and the game’s development, but reassures them that Dragon Age 4 will only ship once it meets the company’s quality standards. The letter reads:

“Hi everyone,

I hope you are well. I’m writing to inform you all that Matt Goldman is leaving BioWare. We have mutually agreed to part ways, and his last day is today.

We understand that Matt’s departure has an impact on you, as well as the game’s development. Rest assured our commitment to a high-quality Dragon Age game has not waivered, and we will not ship a game that is not up to BioWare’s standards.

We, including EA’s executive team, have absolute confidence in the leadership here at the studio and the people working on this game to carry forward our vision.”

BioWare has seen several notable departures from the studio over the past decade, especially in light of both Mass Effect Andromeda and Anthem‘s critically divisive releases. BioWare aims to correct the errors of their past by focusing on making the high-quality AAA games that they’re known for. Dragon Age 4‘s development is currently the focus at the studio, with work on the next Mass Effect game also underway.

Dragon Age 4 is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
