BioWare has officially retitled Dragon Age: Dreadwolf to Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Over 15 minutes of new gameplay will arrive next week which promises to offer our first proper look at the game since its announcement several years ago.
According to BioWare, new gameplay footage for Dragon Age: The Veilguard will debut on 11 June at 8AM PDT / 5PM CAT. This will include over 15 minutes of gameplay taken from the game’s opening moments. Additionally, the developer also confirmed that it will be a strictly single-player experience with no live service or multiplayer elements to speak of.
Dragon Age executive producer Gary McKay explained in the recent blog post:
“After Dragon Age: Inquisition launched, the studio was given an incredible opportunity to explore, test, and validate a variety of gameplay concepts as we worked to determine what the next Dragon Age could look like. We brought everything to the table which, yes, even included a multiplayer concept. The time we spent experimenting and iterating gradually taught us a lot. This work, and the amazing support from EA, helped us re-focus on creating an incredible single-player game, with all the choices, characters and world-building you’d expect from us.”
As for the name change, BioWare explained that The Veilguard better represented the companions who are the heart and soul of the game. Some, including myself, agreed that Dreadwolf had a slightly better ring to it, though it’s sort of understandable why the team wanted to go with a more fitting subtitle.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s big reveal was originally teased by Insider Gaming as appearing at Summer Game Fest later tonight. That could still possibly happen by way of a short teaser trailer that then leads into the bigger gameplay reveal next week. Most of all, fans are just hoping that all of this news will be accompanied by a release date.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
