With Dragon Age: The Veilguard finally out for consoles and PC, players are working through BioWare’s latest RPG. While the game is light on big role-playing choices, it does offer several intriguing romances with the various companions you recruit on your adventure. One of the first companions you meet is the rogue dwarf, Lace Harding. Here’s a guide on how to romance Harding and what quests you need to look out for.
Before we proceed, make sure you also check out our guide on how to romance the Shadow Dragons mage, Neve Gallus, in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. We’ve got more guides on the way so keep an eye out.
Dragon Age fans might immediately recognise Lace Harding as the scout from Dragon Age: Inquisition. Fortunately, BioWare has now made her a companion in The Veilguard that can be romanced. In the early stages of the game, your player character, Rook, will have to make a decision to bring Neve or Harding along to disrupt Solas’ ritual. Choosing Harding in this case will gain you a big approval boost, which is nice if you’re starting off her romance. She’ll have scars and bruises throughout the game due to this decision but they will eventually subside.
How to Romance Harding in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Approvals
Harding appreciates a kind, caring and supportive Rook, especially after she gets newfound magical abilities (something dwarves are unable to do). It’s best to choose the most supportive responses in your dialogue options and reassure Harding that she’ll be fine. You’ll also get obvious dialogue choices to flirt with her. It’s important to choose these in order to progress your romance with Harding.
Harding’s Quests
Of course, it’s important to also tackle Harding’s personal quests whenever they become available. We recommend doing them as soon as possible and before you tackle any big main quests as progressing the main quest too far can lock you out of Harding’s personal questline. Here are all of Harding’s personal quests in Dragon Age: The Veilguard:
- An Unfamiliar Sense
- The Waiting Stone
- The Bond Rekindled
- The Heart of a Titan
- The Eternal Hymn
Key Decisions
There are a few key decisions you’ll have to make in order to progress (and eventually lock in) your romance with Harding.
- After the quest Bloodbath and right before the quest After the Storm, visit Harding to initiate another flirty dialogue option, ”Anything I can do to help?‘. This option ensures that you’ve shown romantic interest in Harding withou locking in your relationship. Naturally, she doesn’t give you a straight answer just yet.
- During The Bond Rekindled quest, Rook must commit to a romance with Harding by choosing the dialogue option ‘I won’t let it take you.’ After this, your Bond Rank with Harding will turn to ‘Smitten’ in the Companions menu, sealing the deal. More romantic scenes will follow after this encounter that you can lean into.
Do Not…
If you plan on romancing Harding in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, it’s important that you don’t do the following:
- Don’t try and pursue other romantic relationships while romancing Harding. You can do some harmless flirting with other companions in the beginning of the game but at one point, you’ll have to commit to Harding. If you choose to be indecisive with Harding, she’ll eventually form a romance with Taash.
- Don’t avoid Harding’s personal quests. It goes without saying but you won’t make much progress with her if you don’t help with her personal journey.
- Don’t choose dialogue options that can cut off your romance with Harding. They’re easy to spot as all the other dialogue options without the heart symbol in your wheel, so always pick the heart to advance her romance.
