BioWare has released the main theme for its upcoming RPG, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, scored by Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer. BioWare’s anticipated return to the Dragon Age franchise will release later this month, offering a new adventure, new characters and improved gameplay and visuals over its 2014 predecessor, Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Hans Zimmer is best known for composing movies like The Dark Knight, Inception and Gladiator, though he also has a history of composing music for video games. Some notable examples of Zimmer’s video game scores include Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Crysis 2 and (to everyone’s surprise) FIFA 19. Zimmer will co-compose the soundtrack for Dragon Age: The Veilguard alongside Lorne Balfe, who also worked on Assassin’s Creed 3, Beyond: Two Souls and Crysis 2.
In related news, BioWare recently released brand new gameplay for Dragon Age: The Veilguard showing a boss fight against a blighted dragon. We also got a closer look at how the game’s pause mechanic, called the ability wheel, will let players pause the action to issue commands to companions while also tapping into their special abilities and attacks. Each ability comes with a cooldown timer, encouraging resourceful thinking and strategies.
The official description for Dragon Age: The Veilguard reads:
“Enter the world of Thedas, a vibrant land of rugged wilderness, treacherous labyrinths, and glittering cities – steeped in conflict and secret magics. Now, a pair of corrupt ancient gods have broken free from centuries of darkness and are hellbent on destroying the world. Thedas needs someone they can count on. Rise as Rook, Dragon Age’s newest hero. Be who you want to be and play how you want to play as you fight to stop the gods from blighting the world. But you can’t do this alone – the odds are stacked against you. Lead a team of seven companions, each with their own rich story to discover and shape, and together you will become The Veilguard.”
