Publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment has revealed that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has sold over 8 million copies since its launch in 2020, making it one of the best-selling Dragon Ball games of all time. The fact that the game was frequently discounted on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo stores also helped it reach the impressive sales milestone.
Bandai Namco posted a tweet yesterday announcing that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot surpassed 8 million copies sold since launch. The game was a departure from the usual fighting games in the series, opting to use RPG mechanics to walk players through the iconic story of Dragon Ball Z. In the game, players could hone their skills as Goku in a variety of ways, challenge the deadliest villains of each saga and take on content rarely seen in Akira Toriyama’s universe.
“Over 8 millions of you have shown your support for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot,” said Bandai Namco. “Thank you for helping us reach this great milestone – we hope you look forward to what’s coming next!”

Its wider availability on almost every platform coupled with the fact that it frequently floated around discounts and sales on the digital storefronts (usually at pretty good prices) certainly helped push Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot towards achieving that 8 million copies milestone.
Bandai Namco is currently working on the next video game in the franchise, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, which is a spiritual successor to the Budokai Tenkaichi series. Players will have a massive roster of characters from across the Dragon Ball universe to choose from including the more recent iterations of characters from Dragon Ball Super. It’s scheduled to release on 11 October 2024 for consoles and PC.
