Dune Part Two Delayed 2024 Hollywood Strikes

Dune: Part Two Rakes in $178.5 Million During Opening Weekend

Dune: Part Two has done incredibly well during its opening weekend at the box office. The film has generated $97 million outside of the United States and $81.5 million in the US. This totals a staggering $178 million in its first two days.

The opening weekend is great for Warner Bros. The studio spent $190 million producing Dune: Part Two and an additional $100 million promoting the film with Legendary Entertainment. So the film has almost made a profit. Given there’s only so much money you can rake in during opening weekends (due to tickets being limited), Dune: Part Two will likely surpass $200 million in the coming days and turn a profit within the next few weeks.

Dune: Part Two’s ticket sales are showing excellent growth but given the film’s large focus on IMAX screenings, it will take a bit longer to get there. Many viewers would opt to rather wait for IMAX tickets than watch it in a normal cinema. You can only fit so many people into a cinema at once and show this 3-hour film so many times a day.

The film’s success comes after the original was released during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was launched in cinema and on HBO Max at the same time. Warner Bros. was concerned that it would end up being a loss for the company given the large focus on piracy during the pandemic. However, Dune still managed to make $402 million globally at the time.

Dune: Part Two covers the second half of Frank Herbert’s book. The story picks up on Chalamet’s Paul Atreides who seeks safety in the desert following the fall of his royal hose. Austin Butler, Florence Pugh and Christopher Walken join the sprawling cast of Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin and Stellan Skarsgård.
