Paramount Plus is working on a high-budget live-action TV adaption based on the Dungeons and Dragons series. According to the company, the series will debut in an eight-episode season and star some major talent. Rawson Marshall Thurber is set to write and direct the first episode which is now currently in early production. He worked on Netflix’s Red Notice.
Deadline reports that the Dungeons and Dragons show reportedly had interest from multiple buyers and Paramount Plus secured the rights after multiple attempts. The streaming service aims to produce “geek” content for the masses. We have already seen this in its Halo TV adaption, Star Trek and listing the entire Avatar: The Last Airbender on the service.

Picking up Dungeons and Dragons makes sense at this point. The game has become incredibly popular over the past few years as it has tied into mainstream content. It has been a staple in the Stranger Things series and there’s a new Dungeons and Dragons: Honour Among Thieves movie set to release in March too.
Details are still sketchy on this Paramount Plus show. The series is still in very early production. In fact, only the first episode is currently being written to test the waters. Regardless, Paramount Plus has promised eight episodes and we don’t know whether or not it will end up with a second season. We can only hope that the company manages to pull off the same spectacular production values seen in the other latest fantasy series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
