The official plot description for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves reads:
“A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary role-playing game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure.”
A movie adaptation of Dungeons & Dragons was in the works as far back as 2013, originally under Warner Bros. Pictures. However, a dispute between the studio, Hasbro and Universal Pictures over the rights to D&D led to a lawsuit that was settled in 2015. After years of rocky development, the movie was moved from Hasbro to Paramount Pictures, originally planning for it to be released in 2021.
The script went through several rewrites from numerous writers and directors before landing on one written by Freaks and Geeks‘ John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein and Michael Gilio. Daley and Goldstein will also co-direct Honor Among Thieves.
