It seems that E3 2020 will no longer take place in June. While the ESA has yet to announce the cancellation of the annual gaming event, confirmation from various sources has revealed that it will no longer take place. This is most likely due to the coronavirus threat that has caused havoc on international media events this year with GDC, Mobile World Congress and many others forced to shut their doors.

Last week, we reported that the E3 2020 planning was at full speed as the ESA ramped up its plans for the show in June. The word that the organization was still going ahead with the convention was concerning given that E3 sees over 60k people in attendance from all over the world.
The ESA is set to make an announcement later today but the word is official, E3 2020 has been cancelled. Devolver Digital was the first publishing house to confirm the news on Twitter which sparked more sources coming forward with more confirmation. Clearly, the ESA confirmed the E3 2020 cancellation with organizers before they planned on making a public announcement.

Everything was against the show this year. Sony announced they would not be attending for the second year in a row and the coronavirus threat meant it was going to be a major health risk to all those in attendance. Los Angeles, the state where E3 takes place, declared a state of emergency last week. We will update you once the ESA makes its official announcement.
