EA and Koei Tecmo Working on “Next Great Hunting Game”

EA and Koei Tecmo have announced a new partnership for a project described as “the next great hunting game”. At first, you might think this is a new realistic hunting game but it is far from it. In fact, this new project aims to be a larger-than-life fantasy monster hunting experience to rival the likes of the Monster Hunter series.

In a press release, EA and Koei Tecmo describe this new hunting game as a new original IP that aims to deliver a truly AAA experience based in fantasy feudal Japan. If you don’t know, Koei Tecmo is the developer known for its popular Dynasty Warriors series. The partnership will see EA and Koei Tecmo work together while utilizing the strengths of both companies to develop this new game.

Jeff Gamon, General Manager of EA Partners said in a statement:

“Building on the incredible success of EA Originals, which includes the recent releases of It Takes Two and Knockout City, we’re thrilled to be partnering with the amazingly talented Omega Force team. They’ve elevated the hunting genre to the next level, merging their proven talent for combat gameplay with unexpected and innovative mechanics. We can’t wait to introduce their groundbreaking new adventure to the world later this month.”

The good news here is that whatever this project is, EA will showcase it this month. We don’t know when but at least this is not another typical “here’s a game we are excited to show you but you won’t see it for another five years” nonsense.

“The EA team fully embraces our creative independence and have become invaluable partners offering both development and publishing support. Adding the global resources of EA with our own will help us introduce a new kind of hunting game to a global audience of players and expand our reach into global markets. I’m really looking forward to the day that gamers from around the world can play this new game.”

As a huge Monster Hunter fan, I am excited to see what this project is.
