Electronic Arts has revealed that Cliffhanger Games, it’s recently established studio based in Seattle, is currently working on a new single-player video game based on the Marvel comic book hero, Black Panther. The studio was formed back in 2021 by Kevin Stephens, who was previously the boss of Warner Bros Games’ Monolith during the development of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War.
EA has revealed that Cliffhanger Games is currently developing a new, single-player Black Panther game. A rumour from July 2022 already hinted that EA Games’ then-unnamed Seattle studio was working on an open-world, single-player Black Panther game but now we finally have confirmation directly from the publisher. Cliffhanger also consists of several veteran developers from franchises such as Halo, God of War and Call of Duty.

According to EA Games, the third-person Black Panther game is being developed in collaboration with Marvel Games. Stephens posted a statement on the news:
“We want our game to enable players to feel what it’s like to be worthy of the Black Panther mantle in unique, story-driven ways, and we want Cliffhanger Games to empower everyone on our team as we collaborate to bring this amazing world to life. We’re still early in development with a long road ahead, but we know the foundation to any great story is to build an experienced team with diverse voices and perspectives and that’s what we want to build, especially with a superhero as important as Black Panther.”
Stephens also mentioned Cliffhanger’s collaboration with Marvel Games and ambitions for the Black Panther title:
“As we begin this remarkable journey, we are excited to be working with Marvel Games to ensure that we craft every aspect of Wakanda, its technology, its heroes, and our own original story with the attention to detail and authenticity that the world of Black Panther deserves.”
This isn’t the only comic book game currently in development at EA. The publisher announced last year that it had struck a deal with Marvel to make “several new games” based on popular Marvel comics and icons. It’s understood that Dead Space remake developer Motive Studios is currently working on an Iron Man game.
EA Games says that the Black Panther game is still in early development so we’ll be waiting a while to hear or see more of this anticipated title.
