EA Announces Star Wars: Squadrons, New First-Person Starfighter Game

After the game leaked this past weekend, EA Games announced Star Wars: Squadrons, a new first-person starfighter dogfighting game for PS4, Xbox One and PC releasing in October. The game will have players flying through the series’ most popular locations in the most popular starfighters.

Unlike last year’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars: Squadrons is being developed by EA Motive Montreal. In addition to Battlefront II, the studio also worked on Anthem. Star Wars: Squadrons will let players fly through the air in iconic vehicles. Of which include X-Wing, A-Wing, Y-Wing, U-Wing, TIE Fighter, TIE Interceptor, TIE Bomber, and TIE Reaper fighters.

EA Games did not show off any gameplay during the announcement. However, the company plans on revealing more on 18 June 2020 during the EA Play Live event. The game promises multiplayer modes such as “Fleet Battles” which is an objective-based “destroy a capital ship” mode. In addition, the game will include a traditional dogfighting mode.

Most important of all, the game will include an extensive in-game progression system where players will need to earn everything from customization items to gameplay-altering items in-game. This includes fighter cosmetics, weapon upgrades and even pilot appearance items.

Star Wars: Squadrons will also include cross-platform support with multiplayer support between PS4, Xbox One and PC. In addition, the PS4 and PC versions of the game will include a VR mode where players can experience the entire game while wearing a headset.

As for the single-player aspect, Star Wars: Squadrons will include a campaign which is set after the Battle of Endor. Players will take the role of both the New Republic’s Vanguard Squadron and the Galactic Empire’s Titan Squadron. The game is releasing on 2 October 2020 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. It will also be coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X in late 2020. In addition, it will only cost $39,99 instead of a full $59,99 game.

The recently released trailer features no gameplay but its a great showcase of the action to come;
