EA Confirms Apex Legends 2.0 is in Development

EA has confirmed that the studio is working on a follow-up to Apex Legends. While the announcement hasn’t confirmed a direct sequel, the company has this project referred to as “Apex 2.0”.

The news comes from the latest EA Q3 2025 earnings report, where CEO Andrew Wilson laid out the plans for the future of the series. Wilson says that Apex Legends has essentially become a franchise like Battlefield, where EA will continue to grow and support it for 10, 20, or 30 years.

He says that while the focus is currently on Battlefield, which recently got its Battlefield Labs testing program revealed, Respawn is working on a “more meaningful update” to the current Apex Legends and EA hints that this new incarnation will arrive after the launch of Battlefield (which is expected before April 2026).

Our expectation is that Apex will be also one of those franchises [that last 10, 20, 30 years], and that some time, on a longer term time horizon, there will be an even bigger more meaningful update to that experience, an Apex 2.0 if you will. This will not be the last incarnation of Apex.

Of course, for Apex Legends fans, this is great news. However, for Titanfall fans, it isn’t. While fans have hoped for a Titanfall sequel for the longest time now, it seems EA is focused on supporting its live-service shooters instead. As a result, Battlefield and Apex Legends 2.0 will take top priority at EA for the time being. EA even went as far as to cancel the Apex Legends mobile game which was originally expected to launch last year.

EA recently confirmed the public testing program for the new Battlefield game. Players can sign-up to participate in the tests (in certain regions). DICE is currently working with EA on the project alongside three other studios including Criterion Games, Ripple Effect, and Motive.
