EA Games has confirmed that development on Star Wars Jedi 3 is underway at developer Respawn Entertainment. Last year, Cameron Monaghan, the actor behind the series protagonist Cal Kestis, accidentally let slip that work on the third game had commenced. Now we have confirmation directly from the publisher.
Speaking at the EA’s investor relations day recently, EA Entertainment and Technology Laura Miele stated that over 40 million players had hopped into the two Star Wars Jedi games, 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and 2023’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Miele also confirmed that Respawn Entertainment was working on Star Wars Jedi 3 as the “final chapter” in the story.
Miele stated:
“We have delivered some of the highest quality and best-selling Star Wars games of all-time, with over $5 billion in net bookings. This impressive track record includes of course the Star Wars Jedi games, where over 40 million Star Wars fans have connected with Cal Kestis and his arc of becoming a powerful Jedi. Respawn is working hard to bring the final chapter of this thrilling story to players.”
Back in September last year, Stig Asmussen, the director of the first two Star Wars Jedi games, announced that he was leaving Respawn Entertainment “to pursue other adventures.” Before leaving, he spoke highly about envisioning the games as a trilogy. “I always wanted to see this as a trilogy,” he told IGN at the time of Survivor‘s release. “How can we take Cal and the crew to new places beyond what we were doing in the first game?”
“We had a pretty decent idea of timeframe where we wanted Survivor to take place, what the stakes were going to be, what the tone of the game was going to be, what Cal was going to be up against, and how the crew was going to factor into that,” Asmussen added. “And there’s ideas of what we could do beyond that as well.”
