Guinness World Records are meant to be something you can be proud of but we doubt EA Games will be showing this one off anytime soon. Back in 2017, the EA Games community manager responded on Reddit to the controversy surrounding Star Wars Battlefront 2 and its loot boxes. That comment has now won a Guinness World Record for the most-downvoted comment on Reddit…. ever.

According to the snapshot of the award, the comment was downvoted 683,000 times and has won a Guinness World Record 2020 award for the most downvoted Reddit comment.
To put it into perspective, the second-highest downvoted comment is the Thanos Did Nothing Wrong thread.
Back in 2017, Star Wars Battlefront 2 was ridden with pay-to-win loot boxes that forced players into a crazy grind to unlock characters like Darth Vader. You would have to spend countless hours grinding to unlock just one character or spend real money to speed up the process.
EA Games took to Reddit to defend their decisions to release the game with the system in place saying it should give players “a sense of pride and accomplishment” after spending hours grinding for just one unlockable hero.
Every Reddit post from the publisher recieved countless downvotes and fueled the hatred for the company. Two years later EA Games is still struggling to fix its reputation in the gaming industry to the point where gamers just refuse to support the publisher in any way.
EA Games will never forget the scandal and now with a Guinness World Record in its name for being just terrible, it will hopefully remind them to think about the gamers before their wallets.
