Sony is offering select PlayStation Plus subscribers the chance to watch the upcoming live-action Gran Turismo movie from director Neill Blomkamp early. An email is being sent out to random members subscribed to the PlayStation service informing them that they’ve been chosen to “see Gran Turismo before anyone else.”
Early screenings for the Gran Turismo movie will take place at select theatres, though it’s unclear if South Africa is included in this promotion as it’s currently limited to the US. However, it’s possible that more countries and regions might be included in the coming weeks. It also doesn’t mean you’ll get discounts on tickets but rather an exclusive preview of the movie before it hits cinemas next month. Keep an eye out on your email for any confirmation of early access.

The Gran Turismo movie is based on the popular racing simulator series of video games from Sony. However, instead of following the barebones “story” of the games, the live-action adaptation will focus on the real-life story of Jann Mardenborough, a Gran Turismo player who went on to compete in actual racing competitions on his journey to become a professional race car driver.
The plot synopsis for Gran Turismo reads:
“Based on the unbelievable, inspiring true story of a team of underdogs – a struggling, working-class gamer, a failed former race car driver, and an idealistic motorsport exec – who risk it all to take on the most elite sport in the world.”
The movie will star Archie Madekwe as Jann Mardenborough with a talented supporting cast that includes Stranger Things star David Harbour and Pirates of the Caribbean actor Orlando Bloom as well as Djimon Hounsou, Darren Barnet and many others. It was directed by District 9 and Elysium filmmaker Neill Blomkamp.
Gran Turismo releases in cinemas worldwide on 8 August 2023. Check out the official trailer below:
