We know that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to launch on 20 October. The game is also coming with some fancy Deluxe Edition and Collector’s Edition versions. Check them out here. According to Insomniac Games, we now also know that while the game will focus on Venom (and other villains), Eddy Brock isn’t the popular creepy symbiote in the upcoming story.
During the announcement at The Summer Game Fest, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 director confirmed that Eddy Brock isn’t Venom. It was quite a shocking revelation for fans who have, up to now, just taken for granted that the symbiote villain would be canon to Marvel’s Spider-Man universe.

Before the news broke, fans of the series speculated that Peter Parker would become Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. This is after the recent gameplay showed Peter being a bit off-character. His eyes also changed to the sharp spider eyes we know Venom to have.
But that theory has now been dismissed. This is thanks to the concept art revealed by Insomniac Games which shows both Miles Morales and Peter Parker fighting Venom in the air above New York City.
The studio claims that it wanted to tell an original and fresh story in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. This included telling a Venom origin from a different perspective and ditching Eddy Brock for someone else. Who this “else” is, we don’t know yet but we have an idea.
Spoilers Alert – We discuss the Venom reveal in the previous games below. Avoid them if you haven’t played them.
In the original Marvel’s Spider-Man, it is revealed that Harry Osborn is terminally ill. We also learn that Norman Osborn, Harry’s father has discovered some sort of symbiote which he plans to use to cure Harry. During certain parts of the main campaign, you can even explore this more by walking through Harry’s apartment where Venom is floating around in a tank.
With this in mind, it is likely the case that Harry Osborn turns into Venom after his father’s attempt to cure him. Again, this is just speculation at this point.
We will have to wait and see how the events turn out on 20 October when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releases. Watch the PlayStation Showcase gameplay below:
