Elden Ring 2 is Currently Not Being Considered at From Software

From Software president and director Hidetaka Miyazaki says Elden Ring 2 is currently not being considered at the studio, though several projects are in development at the moment. However, the good news is that From Software says it won’t shut down the possibility of a sequel in the future. Meanwhile, Miyazaki confirmed that he’s personally directing a few of the in-development projects at the studio, all diverse in genre.

As reported by IGN Japan, Hidetaka Miyazaki spoke about the current state of From Software at the PlayStation Partner Awards 2024 Japan Asia. “We’re not really considering developments such as an Elden Ring 2,” said Miyazaki, though also made it clear that he’s open to returning to the Elden Ring franchise “in some form in the future.” For now, From Software has multiple projects in the works that aren’t a sequel to 2022’s Game of the Year.

That being said, Elden Ring already got a sequel worth of content with its first (and presumably only) major expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, which released earlier this year. The DLC transported players to a new map filled with new bosses, enemies, weapons, lore and locations. Most players reported spending at least 30-40 hours on the expansion – many even jokingly called it a sequel already, considering its abundance of new content.

Shadow of the Erdtree is also shrouded by a bit of controversy. The expansion was recently nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards, sparking debates online about whether or not an expansion/DLC deserves to be in the same coveted category as full-fledged games. This also gives it a chance to win Game of the Year, meaning Elden Ring – which already won the major award in 2022 – could potentially pick it up again.

From Software’s next projects are still a mystery so we’ll have to wait for an official announcement to find out what the studio has been up to.
