Elden Ring From Software 10 Big Changes New Features

Elden Ring Expected to Sell 4 Million Units in Five Weeks

From Software and George R.R. Martin’s upcoming open-world fantasy RPG Elden Ring is expected to reach huge sales during its first month or so on the market. According to a recent investors Q&A, publisher Bandai Namco are expecting Elden Ring to reach at least 4 million units in its first “term”, meaning five weeks since its release to the end of the fiscal quarter (ending 31 March 2022).

Elden Ring recently received its highly coveted network test which even had scalpers selling off codes for hundreds of dollars online. Following pre-orders going live, especially for its striking Collector’s Edition almost selling out in several regions, it’s no surprise that investors are looking at Elden Ring with big anticipated sales numbers.

In the Q&A statement released, Bandai Namco spoke a little about their ambitions for Elden Ring‘s sales:

“As a future major title, ELDEN RING is scheduled to be released in February 2022. It has been highly evaluated by the game industry and game fans, having won numerous awards at game events in Europe even before its release, and is expected to sell 4 million units (worldwide including Japan) during this term.”

Elden Ring won Most Anticipated Game at last year’s The Game Awards, and has received another nomination in that same category this year as well, where it’s now up against Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok.

Looking back at From Software’s previous sales numbers, their last major title Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice managed to sell 3.8 million units in a little over three months. However, the developer’s RPG releases seem to fare a bit better sales-wise, as Dark Souls III sold over 3 million units in its first month alone. With Elden Ring aligning more with a traditional Dark Souls experience than the blistering, action-heavy combat of Sekiro, it’s likely to be accessible to more players which could equate to bigger sales.

Elden Ring releases on 25 February 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Before you dive in, make sure you read our handy guide on the 10 biggest changes and new features coming to the game.
