Elden Ring Nightreign, the latest multiplayer survival spin-off of Elden Ring from From Software, is finally out today on consoles and PC. We unboxed the Collector’s Edition, watch it here or below.
Over 300,000 players have already hopped into the challenging co-op title, making it one of the biggest launches in the developer’s history. One of the big questions you’ll face when starting out is which classes (called Nightfarers in the game) will suit your playstyle. Here’s a breakdown of all eight available at launch.
Unlike the Elden Ring base game where starting classes ultimately didn’t matter as players could tune their build to anything, Elden Ring Nightreign’s Nightfarers are a bit more set-in-stone from the start. There are options to tweak and adjust the classes as you progress, though their starting stats, weapons and gear is specifically tailored for certain playstyles which is crucial in the beginning of the game.
Elden Ring Nightreign – Full Breakdown of All Nightfarers (Classes)
Wylder
“A young man long in pursuit of the Nightlord. This swordsman has defied death at every turn with his stunning sixth sense for combat. He swore to avenge the Night in the name of his massacred tribe. His attributes are balanced throughout maturation, With excellent HP, strength, and dexterity. Able to command all types of melee weapons.”
The Wylder is a perfect all-rounder class that balances both speed and attack power. It’s a great starting class, particularly for its useful Passive Ability which lets it cheat death a single time, essentially getting one more life than the other Nightfarers. The Wylder also comes with a grappling claw as a Character Skill and its Ultimate Art lets it launch a single powerful iron stake that explodes on impact.
Guardian
“Pinionfolk knight of the winged realm. A former captain who was injured in a war in which his country’s fate hung in the balance. Faced the brunt of the enemy warriors’ attacks to protect his flock. Boasts high HP and stamina, and plays both offense and defense on the frontline, armed with his shield.”
The Guardian is the tank Nightfarer with heavy attacks and increased damage resistance. Its Passive Ability lets it plant its feet and brace for a powerful guard, while its Character Skill called Whirlwind unleashes a devastating cyclone. However, its Ultimate Art lets it leap up and dive down to raise its protective area which is handy for providing other players with solid defence.
Ironeye
“Assassin of the Fellowship. He is feared for his split-second judgment and the ability to spot even the most fleeting of chances to strike, earning him the moniker: Ironeye. Boasts excellent dexterity, and wields control over any battle while firing from a distant range.”
Ironeye is your archer class that uses a bow for ranged damage. It also comes with amazing abilities. Its Passive Ability lets it discover more items that you can obtain from foes, while its Character Skill called Marking lets it create temporary weak points on enemies with a dagger. Ironeye’s Ultimate Art shoots a powerful arrow that ignores a foe’s defence and deals massive damage in the process.
Duchess
“Virtuous thief and stepdaughter of the viscount. Her ability to swiftly escape anyone’s grasp with ease earned her the title of Duchess. The Duchess’ high dexterity and intelligence allow her to fight with combinations of sorceries and weapons.”
If you prefer using daggers and engaging in stealth, The Duchess class is the perfect pick. Her Magnificent Pose Passive Ability lets her dodge repeatedly. Her Character Skill is also useful, allowing her to reprise recent occurrences to damage nearby foes. Finally, her Ultimate Art boosts her stealth, essentially turning her invisible to enemies.
Raider
“A pirate who sailed to the Lands Between from a nearby waterway. The opportunity to try his hand against the Nightlord proved too glorious of an opportunity to pass up. Boasting high HP and strength, his poise allows him to stand firm against moderate attacks and flatten opponents with vigorous offensives.”
Like big weapons? The Raider class is capable of using heavy weapons with ease, boasting incredibly high strength. Its Passive Ability lets it tank damage, making it incapable of being knocked down, while its Character Skill unleashes a succession of powerful heavy attacks. Its Ultimate Art creates a giant tombstone that can be used defensively or scaled by other players for the high ground.
Revenant
“Doll of the daughter of an aristocratic family that faced ruin. On a fateful night, her soul took possession of the doll’s body, and she swore to avenge her disgraced lineage. While steeped in faith, her other attributes develop at only a modest pace. Plays a supportive role in combat by summoning and manipulating spirits, which have the potential to overwhelm enemies.”
The Revenant is a necromancy-based Nightfarer that can summon phantoms to aid in battle. Her Passive Ability lets her raise fallen enemies as ghosts for support, while her Character Skill lets her summon a powerful ally in battle. Her most useful ability is her Ultimate Art which makes herself and nearby players immortal for a short period.
Recluse
“One of the Witches of the Deep Forest. A caster of ancient sorceries who dwells in obscurity, far into the heart of the woods. She came to the lands Between to answer a burning question. Boasts high intelligence and faith, and is able to deftly cast all manner of spells.”
A witch class that masters a variety of sorceries, the Recluse is your ideal magic-focused Nightfarer. Her Magic Cocktail Character Skill lets her fire a magical cocktail for good AoE damage while her Ultimate Art, much like the Revenant, makes nearby allies immortal for a time.
Executor
“This condemned soul, with a body fused with pieces of armor, went missing after a prison stint in the lands Between. Brandishes a cursed blade and savors every battle. Boasts high dexterity and arcane, and is unrivaled in one-on-one fights while armed with his cursed sword.”
The Executor class is tailored towards players seeking Sekiro’s parry-focused one-on-one combat. Using a katana as his primary weapon, the Executor can receive a boost after recovering from status ailments thanks to its Passive Ability. Its Character Skill allows it to draw a cursed sword that can deflect incoming enemy attacks, while its Ultimate Art turns it into a primordial beast.
Elden Ring Nightreign is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
