Elden Ring Nightreign Amassed Over 300K Players in its First Hour

Elden Ring Nightreign, the latest multiplayer spin-off of Elden Ring from From Software, amassed over 300K players on Steam in its first hour – a staggering amount of players that has eclipsed the entire player count of the Dark Souls trilogy combined. The game is available today on consoles and PC, though we can’t imagine what the player count looks like on PlayStation and Xbox until Bandai Namco offers sales figures.

Looking at the Steam Charts, Elden Ring Nightreign hit over 300K players within the first hour of its release earlier today (or last night depending on which part of the world you’re in). That number seems to still be on the rise, now sitting at 313,000 players. We assume many players will hop into the title this weekend as well, potentially pushing that number up even further. Safe to say, it’s been a big success for From Software on its first day.

The Elden Ring IP is a big contributor towards the game’s success, largely thanks to its enormous cultural footprint in the gaming and pop culture world. Of course, with the game’s focus on multiplayer requiring teams of three to play (or solo if you’re feeling daring), there’s an incentive for multiple players to be playing at once.

Thankfully, From Software revealed earlier this week that was bolstering its servers to accommodate an influx of players at launch. Despite the beefed up servers, some players on social media are reporting disconnections, bugs and crashes which is to be expected for a multiplayer game’s launch weekend. Given enough time, the developer could provide improvements to server stability as it adjusts for a potentially bigger rush of players in the coming days.

Elden Ring Nightreign is available today on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Make sure you check out the PC system requirements if you’re picking it up on Steam.
