We are just over two weeks away from playing Elden Ring Shadow of The Erdtree and ahead of the DLC’s launch on 21 June, previews have dropped online. We now have a better understanding of the game’s DLC, how long it will take and what players can expect from this massive story expansion.
According to the previews, Elden Ring Shadow of The Erdtree comes loaded with new content. The game’s DLC features over 10 main bosses to encounter across the new area called The Land of Shadow.
This new Land of Shadow is roughly the same size as Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsular put together. If you don’t remember, Limgrave is the first area players explored in the Elden Ring base game. This essentially means that Elden Ring Shadow of The Erdtree will take players roughly 30-40 hours to get through.
When it comes to item collecting, Elden Ring Shadow of The Erdtree packs around 100 new weapons to find throughout the DLC. In addition, there are 8 new weapon types to find and experiment with too.
These new 8 weapon types have their own move sets, requirements, and Ashes of War and offer a diverse way to play the DLC. They include:
- Beast Claws
- Great Katanas
- Hand-to-hand Arts
- Light Greatswords
- Perfume Bottles
- Reverse-hand Swords
- Throwing Weapons
- Thrusting Shields
Similar to Margit, The Fell Omen who acted as the base game’s so-called “skill check” boss, Shadow of The Erdtree will see players face off against Divine Beast Dancing Lion in the Belurat Settlement Tower.
Overall, enemies in Elden Ring Shadow of The Erdtree are described to be “more agile and faster” than the base game. Players will need to time their dodges and attacks accordingly to beat them.
Beginner players worried about the tough challenge can make use of a new mechanic called the Shadow Realm Blessing. With it, you’ll be able to stack a consumable called Scadutree Fragments which reduces incoming damage and increases outgoing damage.
Players can also now level up their Spirit Ashes to above 10+ in the DLC. This allows their summons to scale with the additional levels obtained in the content and fight the stronger enemies.
Players are expected to be level 150+ to access the Elden Ring Shadow of The Erdtree DLC. The DLC is accessed in Mohgwyn Palace by touching the withered arm sticking out of the cocoon.
Elden Ring Shadow of The Erdtree releases on 21 June for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Visit our pre-order guide here for everything you need to know about the various editions launching.
