Shadow of the Erdtree, the first massive expansion for Elden Ring, will be the game’s only DLC. From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed this much in a recent interview, though the developer isn’t ruling out a sequel to the award-winning action RPG just yet.
Speaking to Campfire Camp yesterday, Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed that Shadow of the Erdtree will be the first and only DLC for Elden Ring, squashing old rumours that From Software was working on another DLC afterwards. It’s been over two years since Elden Ring launched in 2022, so plenty of time has passed to make Shadow of the Erdtree quite a substantial expansion. That said, it looks like fans won’t get any more major Elden Ring content in the future – unless it’s a sequel.
During the interview, Miyazaki added that he hasn’t completely ruled out a new entry in the franchise, stating that there’s an opportunity for From Software to make another game set in The Lands Between, Elden Ring‘s huge fantasy world. This isn’t exactly confirmation of a sequel, though it does give fans hope that a sequel is a possibility.
As far as we know, From Software is working on multiple new projects at the moment including Shadow of the Erdtree. Thanks to some job recruitment posts from October last year, it seems like the studio is making several new games but it’s unclear if one of them is an Elden Ring sequel, a new IP or both.
Miyazaki also revealed earlier this year that future From Software games might not be directed by him as he wants to take a step back and allow others to fill the creative lead roles. He stated:
“I think it’s very likely that we’ll see new directors going forward. And I think if we do that, I’d like to step away from that supervisory role and give them full direction and full control over those projects. I think really this is the best way and the easiest way for them to flourish within that environment and with those new projects.”
Elden Ring is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
