Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Gameplay Trailer Release Date

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is The Highest-Rated DLC of All Time

The review embargo for Shadow of the Erdtree, the first and only DLC for the award-winning fantasy RPG Elden Ring from From Software, dropped yesterday revealing tons of praise. In fact, according to Metacritic, it’s now the highest-rated DLC of all time, surpassing previous title holder The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine.

As it stands, Elden Ring‘s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC currently holds a 95 average rating on Metacritic based on 56 reviews, passing The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine‘s 92 rating. It’s not only the highest-rated DLC of all time but also the highest-rated DLC in From Software’s history, surpassing the developer’s previous expansions for Dark Souls and Bloodborne.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise considering that the base game also scored similarly and managed to sweep up numerous awards in 2022 including Best RPG and Game of the Year at The Game Awards.

Shadow of the Erdtree takes place in the Land of Shadow, a realm that co-exists with the Lands Between. Players venture into this realm in search of the demi-god Miquella, who had left his corporeal body in the Lands Between. For those familiar with the the hardest boss fight in Elden Ring, Miquella is the brother of Malenia and one of three Empyreans next to his sister and Ranni The Witch, at least according to the very vague lore which we don’t claim to be experts on.
