Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion Development April 2022 From Software

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Was in Development Since April 2022 – Report

Earlier this year, From Software officially announced a major expansion for its open-world action-RPG Elden Ring titled Shadow of the Erdtree. A promotional image was shared with confirmation that the expanded content is currently in development but not much else is known about it. However, a new report suggests that Shadow of the Erdtree began development as far back as April 2022, which was a couple of months after the base game released.

A LinkedIn post was recently updated to show that Elden Ring‘s Shadow of the Erdtree – which was previously listed as an “unannounced project” – had been in development since at least April 2022. The base game launched in February 2022 so the expansion was being fleshed out soon after the game’s release. This suggests that Shadow of the Erdtree has more or less been in development for a year now.

Unfortunately From Software has yet to give fans an update about a possible release date for the expansion. According to a report from last month, the studio might be prioritising the release of its next game, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, first before Shadow of the Erdtree. Armored Core VI’s release date of 25 August was apparently leaked recently, meaning it’s possible that Elden Ring‘s expansion could arrive sometime in late 2023 or early 2024.

Little is known about the expansion at this point. Some speculate that we might be travelling into the past and seeing The Lands Between before it fell to ruin while others think a large new area will be unlocked that continues the story of the base game. Above all, we can probably expect new boss fights, new gear and plenty of lore to sink our teeth into.

Elden Ring is currently available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Shadow of the Erdtree does not have a release date yet.
