Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree New Game Plus

Elden Ring – Should You Start Shadow of the Erdtree DLC on New Game Plus?

Shadow of the Erdtree, the upcoming DLC for Elden Ring, is just a couple of short days away from release and players are gearing up to take on the enormous expansion. However, there’s a good chance that many players have already progressed into New Game Plus in the base game and might be wondering if accessing the DLC would be a good idea in Journey 2 and beyond.

Technically, you can enter the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC regardless of Journey 1 or New Game Plus. As long as you progress into the game until the point where you can access Mohgwyn Palace and defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood, you’ll be gifted with the entry point into the expansion.

That said, there are some caveats to starting Shadow of the Erdtree in New Game Plus. Essentially, your Journey 2 in New Game Plus increases the health of enemies and bosses while also increasing their damage output. This applies to the DLC as well. Needless to say, if you start Shadow of the Erdtree in New Game Plus, every boss and enemy in the DLC will not only have increased health but hit harder.

The added benefit of starting Shadow of the Erdtree in New Game Plus means you’ll be able to enter the DLC at a decent level. It’s generally believed that the recommended level of entry should be level 150, though you’d be able to accumulate enough experience (and maxed out gear) to go past that point. However, you can very easily achieve level 150 in Journey 1 by simply completing the game and defeating most of the important bosses.

Once you’ve beaten the Elden Beast, just make sure not to start Journey 2 at the Roundtable Hold if you don’t wish to enter New Game Plus. You can then return to Mohgwyn Palace and use Miquella’s cocoon to begin the DLC.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree launches on 21 June 2024 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Make sure you also check out the game’s pre-load and file size.
