The Elden Ring SteamDB was recently updated past “the pattern of a normal update”, suggesting that some kind of new content will drop soon. All signs seem to point to Elden Ring‘s previously announced expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, having a presence at The Game Awards in December. It’s possible that the highly anticipated DLC could be right around the corner.
As spotted by Twitter/X user Ziostorm, who has a good track record of insider information regarding From Software games, the SteamDB for Elden Ring recently received a batch of abnormal updates which don’t fit the pattern of regular updates. While Ziostorm admitted that this might be guesswork, it suggests that Shadow of the Erdtree could be due for a showcase any day now – and it will most likely be at The Game Awards.

From Software and The Game Awards seem to have a good relationship. Not only did both Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Elden Ring pick up Game of the Year wins at the event but Sekiro was actually revealed at the 2017 show (granted, it was a teaser without an official title at the time). Geoff Keighley also presented the long-awaited gameplay reveal for Elden Ring at Summer Game Fest in 2021, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Shadow of the Erdtree appears at this year’s show.
Yes, I am going insane as TGA approaches with the possibility of an Elden Ring DLC trailer, and as a symptom of that insanity, I noticed that SteamDB has passed the pattern of a normal update.
We could be getting a content drop of some kind soon, but the pattern is not perfect. pic.twitter.com/q1SPOWgHMB— Ziostorm (@Ziostorm1) November 29, 2023
Last month, Ziostorm claimed that, according to their sources, the release date for Shadow of the Erdtree was 5 February 2024. If this is true then a reveal in December seems likely to happen. Reports suggest that development on the DLC officially began in April 2022. It’s also rumoured that From Software initially planned to release 2 DLCs before merging both into a large expansion, hence why it has taken so long to arrive.
Elden Ring is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
