During the weekend rumours began to swirl around online about a possible Elden Ring reveal set to take place later this March during an Xbox event. While this Xbox showcase had not been confirmed yet by any official sources, Dualshockers claimed their “solid rumours” pointed to a 23 March 2021 date for the event. In addition, they believed that the much-anticipated Elden Ring would be the highlight of the show. Unfortunately, both of those predictions seem to be fake.

Shortly after posting the article citing Paul Thurrott as their source for the Xbox event and Jason Schreier as the Elden Ring source, Xbox marketing manager Aaron Greenberg took to Twitter to shut it all down.

In a Tweet, he said, “this is not happening”. While Aaron agrees that events and announcement stream often take place he says that “nothing coming soon that would feature game announcements or world premieres like this”.

We can’t really fault DualShockers for presuming the obvious. Jeff Grubb apparently claimed that Elden Ring would be showcased sometime in March during a recent GamesBeat Decides podcast. Jason Schreier then followed up with more hints at the game’s reveal saying that “there is strong evidence floating around that the game will be shown relatively soon”.

So right now, we know that there is most likely is no 23 March 2021 Xbox event taking place. However, that does not say that we won’t see Elden Ring this month. Perhaps From Software have other plans to reveal the game during their own private stream? Just because Microsoft says their event is not happening, does not mean Jeff and Jason’s claims aren’t correct either.

Elden Ring was originally announced back in 2018 at The Game Awards. We have not seen or heard anything about the game since other than a few gameplay rumours and so-called leaked concept art.
