Director Eli Roth has signed to direct Gearbox Software’s Borderlands movie. He will be joining the likes of writer Craig Mazin and producers Avi and Ari Arad.  The film has been in the works since 2015 at Lionsgate Motion Picture Group but has suffered numerous delays with directors jumping ship and other in-house issues.

Eli Roth announced the Borderlands movie news on Twitter where he tweeted  a picture with his face cropped onto a Borderlands psycho saying;

So excited to be part of the Borderlands family! Thank you @GearboxOfficial @Lionsgate @DuvalMagic, @picturestart, Arad Productions and everyone for welcoming me in. See you on Pandora!

According to Deadline, Eli looks forward to bringing his own energy, ideas and vision to the fun, wild and endlessly creative world of Borderlands. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president Nathan Kahane stated;

with Eli’s vision and Craig’s screenplay, we believe we have cracked the code on bringing the anarchic world of Borderlands to the big screen in a big way that will be a fresh, compelling and cinematic event for moviegoers and fans of the game.” Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford is also an executive producer on the film, and Roth calls him and others at Gearbox “incredibly supportive of my ideas.”

While there is no release date for the Borderlands Movie yet, we cannot wait to see how this turns out. It has been in production for long enough don’t you think?
