Earlier this week, we reported that Fortnite creator Epic Games will be launching their own store for PC gamers. The Epic Games Store is now live and the catalogue at the moment is very lacking. However, Epic is doing something that, for the lack of a better term, is epic. Every two weeks, starting next week, gamers will be able to pick up a free game from the Epic Games Store.

This move is unprecedented for a digital storefront. Sure, we get the occasional free game, but Epic promises one free game every two weeks for the whole of 2019. You won’t even have to wait until next year, as Epic is kicking things off with the awesome Subnautica as their first free game available from 14 December to 27 December. Then, Super Meat Boy will follow from 28 December to 10 January.

It’s only the start and Epic is kicking things off with some fantastic titles. By my calculations, this would mean that next year, PC gamers can grab a total of 26 free games from the Epic Games Store, 27 if you count Subnautica. Honestly, that’s more than some people might have in their gaming library in total, which is simply awesome.

Epic revealed this information in a post, explaining that:

The store will also feature one free game every two weeks throughout 2019. Epic is funding these free releases so you always have something new to come and check out. The first free game will be Subnautica, available from Dec 14th to Dec 27th, followed by Super Meat Boy from Dec 28th to Jan 10th.

The Epic Games store will be growing throughout 2019 and beyond, as it opens up more widely to other games.

The signup to the Epic Games Store is quick and easy, and there is no doubt that the promise of a free game every two weeks will get millions of gamers to sign up. There seem to be no strings attached at all, but we will have to wait and see until Subnautica becomes free on 14 December to make sure.

It remains to be seen if Epic will be able to keep up with quality free games throughout 2019, but this is without a doubt an amazing move.

Have you created an Epic Games Store account yet and what do you think about this mammoth promise of a free game every two weeks for a year? Let us know in the comment section below.
