Somerville finally has a release date and it is happening sooner than expected. If you have been following the game development of this new title, you probably thought it would have been pushed into 2023 but thankfully, that’s not the case. Somerville will release on 15 November for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC. In addition, the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
Somerville has been a long time coming. The game was announced back in 2017 by the co-creator of Inside, Dino Patti. He originally worked at Playdead on games such as Limbo and Inside. Patti then left the studio to form his own company called Jumpship which has now developed Somerville. According to Patti, there was a fallout at the studio that forced him to leave.
Hopefully, it was all worth it. Somerville is a highly anticipated indie game that has been on the radar for some time now. It follows a family of four as they survive on a post-apocalyptic Earth. The father, mother, son and dog must navigate around the deadly environment and survive the mysterious aliens that have taken over the planet. The gameplay sees players control all four characters at certain stages in order to overcome challenges.
Jumpship released a trailer for Somerville to announce the release date but it doesn’t really show us much. I guess the gameplay is meant to be a surprise. We know that the game is played through a third-person perspective which is a change in comparison to Inside and Limbo. However, we’ll just have to hope that from everything we have seen up to this point, it is fun.
