MindsEye CEO Negative Comments Paid

Executives at MindsEye Studio Depart One Week Before Game’s Launch

MindsEye, the upcoming action-adventure game from Build a Rocket Boy, launches next week and it’s already in a bit of trouble. Last week, the company’s co-CEO made some strange speculations about the game’s negative reception and now, the studio has lost two executives one week before launch.

As reported by Eurogamer, Build a Rocket Boy Chief Legal Officer Riley Graebner and Chief Financial Officer Paul Bland announced their exit from the studio after two years. Graebner confirmed his departure on LinkedIn, stating that he was “proud” of what the team accomplished with MindsEye. He added that during his tenure at the company, staff had doubled in size to “over 450 employees” as the project got more ambitious. He didn’t give a reason for his exit from the studio.

Following the news of Graebner and Bland leaving Build a Rocket Boy, the MindsEye Discord erupted in speculation with many expressing concern about the two executives leaving so close to the game’s release. Followers believed it could be a sign of “troubling internal affairs” or the executives leaving ahead of time to avoid potential “legal issues if MindsEye comes out broken.” Judging by the game’s early reception, it already has its fair share of bugs and technical problems.

This all comes in light of co-CEO Mark Gerhard suggesting that the negative reception surrounding MindsEye was a targeted attack against the game by “bot farms posting negative comments and dislikes.” Gerhard also claimed that people were being paid to say bad things about the game, though he later retracted this statement.

Whatever state MindsEye ends up releasing in, it’s not looking too hot for the game, especially since it comes from former Rockstar Games talent Leslie Benzies who worked on the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

MindsEye launches on 10 June 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
