The combat for the upcoming Fable reboot has apparently been compared to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. While developer Playground Games has mostly been quiet about the title ahead of its 2025 release, one journalist has reportedly watched early alpha footage of the game and made some interesting notes about what he had seen.
According to Windows Central’s Jez Corden, the Fable reboot compared favourably to the critically acclaimed RPG, stating that it had “CD Projekt Red DNA.” Corden noted that the combat had similar mechanics to The Witcher 3 like the usage of different swords and magic. This is either good or bad news depending on how much you enjoyed the combat gameplay in The Witcher 3, though Playground Games seems to be taking inspiration from the right games.
Corden also stated that the Fable reboot had “mature tones” from the various enemy types to the narrative. There will also reportedly be options for multiple protagonists, which is interesting considering the previous games never really gave players that option. In fact, it’s rare for RPGs to feature more than one protagonist for the player. We’ll have to wait and see how this plays into the narrative or how it impacts the experience but Fable is perfectly unhinged to attempt a crazy feature like that.
