Bethesda has announced that the long-awaited PS5 and Xbox Series X/S current-gen update for Fallout 4 has been delayed to 2024. No reason was given other than Bethesda requesting “a bit more time” as it continues to work towards bringing the 2015 action-RPG to modern hardware with a bunch of technical improvements.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S update for Fallout 4 was announced back in October 2022 with an initial release window of 2023. Now that the year is almost over with no update in sight, Bethesda has finally addressed what everyone’s been thinking: we’ll just have to wait until next year for it.

The current-gen update promises to deliver new options for players including a performance mode that prioritises framerate or a quality mode that prioritises 4K resolution with a presumably lower framerate. Furthermore, the free update will also include various bug fixes, tweaks and new Creation Club content along with enhanced visuals for a smoother experience in the wastelands of Boston.
Thank you for your patience with us as we work on the Fallout 4 next-gen update. We know you're excited, and so are we! But we need a bit more time and look forward to an exciting return to the Commonwealth in 2024.

Fans aren’t too happy at the moment after Bethesda recently updated its mod pages for both Skyrim and Fallout 4, overhauling the Creation Club content to include community-driven mods all under a single accessible menu. According to modders, this update broke several mods in the process after the coding was altered or changed, forcing many modders to adjust their work. As of writing, plenty of mods are still broken and there’s no telling when they will be fixed or if Bethesda will offer a solution.
In related news, producer Jonathan Nolan is set to launch the live-action Fallout TV series in April next year which the showrunners described as Fallout 5, basically confirming that it’s a canon story that takes place in the same universe as the games and could be seen as a new canonical adventure. The first trailer shows plenty of promise too, which you can watch right here.
