The Far Cry series from Ubisoft primarily features a first-person perspective when out exploring, engaging in combat or watching cutscenes. It’s rare that we actually get to see our player characters unless you use certain weapons. However, a new job listing suggests that a third-person mode might be featured in the unannounced Far Cry 7.
As spotted by Portuguese outlet Geekin Out, a new job listing posted on Ubisoft is seeking a senior gameplay animator to work on Far Cry 7 who is capable of working on both first and third-person perspectives. This comes as a bit of a surprise considering that all previous Far Cry games were largely first-person adventures but this time, Ubisoft might be looking at changing up the formula a bit.
Some have suggested that this might be related to the unannounced multiplayer game that is rumoured to launch with Far Cry 7. A third-person perspective in multiplayer would potentially give players a wider field of view plus show off any cosmetics that could be earned online. That said, we don’t know if the multiplayer will be PvP or feature PvE elements, though previous reports suggest that it will be a sort of survival mode with players against the wilderness itself.
Ubisoft has yet to officially announce Far Cry 7 but it might be one of the worst-kept secrets in the industry right now. Far Cry 6 was a big hit for Ubisoft when it launched back in 2022 so it makes sense that a follow-up would enter development sooner rather than later. It might be a while until we get an official announcement.
In other news, Ubisoft held its latest Forward event earlier this month that gave us deep dives into Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws, both of which are scheduled to launch before the end of the year.
