If you start seeing Final Fantasy 7 Remake videos and spoilers popping up online then don’t be surprised. The upcoming RPG developed by Square Enix has leaked ahead of its 10 April 2020 release date in some parts of the world. Images of the Final Fantasy VII Remake Deluxe Edition started appearing on Reddit indicating the game’s early leak at retail.

Square Enix is facing some difficult challenges getting the physical copies of Final Fantasy 7 Remake released across the globe. They announced last week that some countries may not receive physical copies of the game in time, South Africa being one of them due to our current COVID-19 lockdown.

The publisher and developer stated on the blog post that the worldwide restrictions in place mean that they cannot control the date the game may arrive in your country. Thus, they can no longer control the release date of the Final Fantasy VII Remake.

“As you will be aware, many countries are limiting entry or closing their national and state borders and restricting the distribution and delivery of non-essential items,” Square Enix wrote in a blog post. “Understandably these restrictions are being implemented so that essential items can reach their destination as fast as possible. This does not mean that box copies of Final Fantasy 7 Remake will not be dispatched, it just means that we cannot control the date the game may arrive.”

Here in SA, the game won’t launch physically until a much later date. Our lockdown ends on 16 April 2020 at 23:59 which means the stock can only begin to arrive from other countries after that date. It is an unfortunate situation. Final Fantasy 7 Remake will still launch on 10 April 2020 for PS4, we just don’t know when you will get your hard copy of the game…
