Final Fantasy IX 25th Anniversary

Final Fantasy IX 25th Anniversary Website Launches Amid Remake Rumours

Square Enix has launched a special Final Fantasy IX 25th Anniversary website to celebrate the iconic RPG. The website went live this morning and includes various merchandise, music, books, and other information on the classic game. However, the important news here is a mysterious date that Square Enix has listed on the website, 7 July, along with other “projects” which haven’t been detailed yet.

There are various projects being worked on to commemorate the game’s 25th anniversary. These are specifically called “25th Anniversary Projects”. One is a collaboration with Zoff, which includes a glasses line (yes, of all things). Square Enix hasn’t detailed the collaboration yet, but according to the Zoff website, the range will be released in July.

The second project is the interesting one. On the website, Square Enix lists another event taking place in July where users can enter a lottery to stand a chance to be part of something unique. Details are scarce, but the landing page says “FINAL FANTASY IX 25th Anniversary Lottery” has been released in July 2025! Details will be announced at a later date, so please look forward to it.

Of course, the elephant in the room right now is the much-rumoured Final Fantasy IX Remake, which has been in the news for almost two years now. The game has been in development at an undisclosed studio in collaboration with Square Enix. Various sources have backed up the claims of the game’s existence, including reliable insiders NateTheHate and Jason Schreier. However, Square Enix has yet to announce anything.

Given this website and the studio’s emphasis on the anniversary, it would make sense to announce the game and perhaps even release it this year. Many fans suspect that Square Enix will debut the remake this week during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, which is expected to kick off on Wednesday.

Nintendo and Square Enix have had a strong partnership in the past. This past week’s Direct, which played host to the Virtual Game Card announcement and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond news, also included the reveal of Dragon Quest I + II HD-2D Remake. So Square Enix has shown in the past that it doesn’t have a problem revealing games during Nintendo events.
