Nioh and Ninja Gaiden developer Team Ninja is working on a new Final Fantasy spinoff action RPG game for Square Enix. According to a report, Final Fantasy Origins is a hardcore actions RPG inspired by Nioh. In addition, the game is set for a reveal during E3 2021 next month and is a PS5 console exclusive.
Fanbyte reports that Final Fantasy Origins will be a drastic move away from the traditional RPG series. So much so that rumours have compared the game to the likes of the Dark Souls series and Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. However, Final Fantasy Origins is also more accessible than Nioh making it appealing for a wider audience.

According to the latest rumours, Final Fantasy Origins is based during the events of the first game in the franchise and will also host a playable demo as early as this summer (winter in SA). It will follow the same release cycle as the Nioh series which saw the RPG release multiple alpha demos before its official release.
Since the rumours started swirling online, forums have filled with insiders who know about the project. Many of them claim that Final Fantasy Origins is not Nioh 3 but instead its own ‘beast’ with very different systems in place. The game will feature multiple difficulties for players who want a challenge. In addition, Final Fantasy Origins is violent and dark. One insider says it is the darkest, most violent Final Fantasy ever made.
Team Ninja and Square Enix already have a developer relationship thanks to their previous game together, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. The game follows the Final Fantasy series in a brawler-like arena that sees players choose from a range of characters plucked from the entire Final Fantasy series.
With E3 2021 just two weeks away, we can’t wait to see this game in action. We will update you as we learn more.
