Square Enix has officially released a PS5 demo for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and it clocks in at almost 50GB. The demo will let players control both Cloud and Sephiroth during the pivotal Nibelheim story beat which acts as the opening chapter of the upcoming game. Additionally, fans can also look forward to an update to be added later this month that will let you explore Junon.
The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo recounts Cloud’s early days as a Soldier, looking back at his mission with Sephiroth in Nibelheim. Players will be able to play as Cloud and Sephiroth, leading to the eventual destruction of the village and Sephiroth’s turn to madness. It’s the setup for important events in the full game and should provide some much-needed context as to why the crew are going after Sephiroth.
Square Enix added that an update to the demo will arrive before the game’s release that will let players explore a part of the Junon region – a first taste of the open-world exploration to come in the final release. Make sure you have some free space, though, as the demo currently requires almost 50GB of space to install – 48.6GB to be precise – and that’s not including the Junon section.
In addition to the demo announcement, PlayStation also showed off some brand new gameplay for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth at the recent State of Play. Square Enix officially confirmed that Vincent Valentine and Cid will not be playable characters in the main campaign, though they will likely be saved for the third game.
