Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Director Asks Fans Not to Make Inappropriate Mods on PC

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi has urged fans not to make inappropriate mods when the game launches on PC in January. A PC release for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was announced during The Game Awards as part of Square Enix’s acceptance speech for Best Score/Music, which means certain mod-sharing websites will probably be flooded with the usual assortment of nude mods or revealing outfits, despite the director’s best efforts to deter them.

Naoki Hamaguchi recently told Epic Games Store that it has no plans to add official mod support to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, though it probably won’t stop PC players from installing them via other third-party websites. “While the team has no plans for official in game mod support we respect the creativity of the modding community and welcome their creations,” said Hamaguchi. “Though we ask modders not to create or install anything offensive or inappropriate.”

The most offensive or inappropriate mods that accompany Final Fantasy games on PC are usually nude mods. As is the case with most PC games that have a fair bit of mod support, you’ll probably find nude mods aplenty in your favourite games.

Square Enix also urged fans not to install inappropriate mods back when Final Fantasy XVI launched on PC in September. As you can imagine, that didn’t stop modders from doing so anyway, uploading nudity mods for Clive and Jill shortly after the game launched.

In related news, Square Enix previously announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake part 3 had entered full production in November. The company plans to lessen the development time of the final, untitled entry in the ambitious remake trilogy. If all goes well, we’re probably looking at a release window of 2027 or 2028. By then, the next generation of consoles should also be rolling around, though we imagine there’ll eventually be a bundle or collection that lets players purchase all three games as one package.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on PC on 23 January 2025.
