As expected, Final Fantasy VII Remake has been delayed in South Africa until early May 2020. Various factors came into play which resulted in the game’s delay including the national COVID-19 lockdown and logistic restrictions. In an email sent to us from the Nexus Retail this afternoon, the retailer confirmed the game’s delay which has pushed its new release window into early May 2020. As of now, no set release date has been announced, only that it will arrive in “late April or early May”.

Unfortunately, the game did not arrive in South Africa before the lockdown began due to the stock being held up in the UK which also went under lockdown a few days prior to South Africa. Only once the lockdown ends locally, would imports be allowed in and the stock would arrive in SA. This will further push back the release date of the game.

The current situation was unavoidable. It will impact pre-orders across the country. Those of you who wish to cancel your order can do so by contacting your retailer. However, as I mentioned before, supporting local is vital to the growth of the South African gaming industry so if you do have the patience to wait for that shiny Deluxe Edition then hang on a bit. It just may mean someone gets to keep their job.
