Final Fantasy VII Rebirth State of Play Gameplay

Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 Won’t Be a PS6 Exclusive

Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy producer Yoshinori Kitase says part 3 will not be exclusive to PS6, breaking the tradition of the previous two entries which were both PlayStation exclusives, at least initially. This is likely part of Square Enix’s multiplatform plans to start developing its future AAA titles for more consoles. The studio had released several PlayStation exclusives in the past to disappointing sales numbers for the company.

In an interview with Japanese publication 4Gamer, Kitase told players to rest assured about the exclusivity of Final Fantasy VII Remake part 3. The interviewer asked whether or not the third part would be exclusive to PS6 like its predecessors, to which Kitase replied, “No, you can rest assured about the next one.”

Kitase also confirmed that work on part 3 began as soon as development on Rebirth ended, ensuring that there’s a tighter development schedule for the third and final untitled game in the remake trilogy. It’s still unclear when it will release, though based on the previous game’s development period, players are expecting it in 2027 or 2028.

Square Enix probably won’t stop at Final Fantasy VII to remake more games in the franchise. There has been several reports over the past couple of years about a potential remake of Final Fantasy IXSquare Enix’s Yoshi-P even openly talked about it, suggesting that an ambitious remake of the beloved title would require more than just one game, similar to the scope of Final Fantasy VII.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is now available on PC, though Square Enix urges players not to make any inappropriate mods for the game. Whether PC players will listen or not is a different story.

In other news, longtime Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu announced that he’d be stepping away from composing music for video games. Uematsu will still be involved in composing shorter theme songs or individual tracks, though he will no longer compose entire soundtracks.
