Square Enix describes the game’s release success as “exceptional” and “continuing to increase.” According to Famitsu, Final Fantasy VII Remake shipments and digital sales surpassed one million units in Japan alone. Over 733,00 physical edition copies were shipped within its first three days in Japan and of those 702,853 copies were sold to consumers. Digital sales are much lower than physical copies only selling 276,000 copies in the country.
It seems users want hard copies of the Remake more than ever in Japan. In South Africa, the retail edition of the game was delayed due to our COVID-19 lockdown. The game is still set to release in the country but it will only arrive a short while after we open our borders up for imports.
About Final Fantasy VII Remake:
Completely rebuilt using the best of modern gaming technology, Final Fantasy VII Remake is a reimagining of the iconic original game that re-defined the RPG genre. Along with unforgettable characters and a story revered as one of the most powerful within video games, the game also features a hybrid battle system that merges real-time action with strategic, command-based combat. The first game in the project is set in the eclectic and sprawling city of Midgar and presents a fully standalone gaming experience that goes deeper into the iconic characters and world than ever before.
The game draws players into a world where the Shinra Electric Power Company, a shadowy corporation, controls the planet’s very life force. Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinra’s elite SOLDIER unit now turned mercenary, lends his aid to an underground resistance group calling themselves Avalanche as they fight against Shinra’s oppressive force.
